United States of America - separation of powers

The nytimes.com is a routine for me. Get up in the morning, turn on my computer Bam! Nytimes.com. I'm on the road, on my blackberry, nytimes. com. But I also read other outlets. For a while there, I was a Huffington Post junkie until it became the crap ( in my opinion) it is now. I'll still sneak a peek at it once a  month or something just to see how they've sensationalized some event. It's amazing that now that they have Canadian, UK, French, Spanish editions, the contrast between them. I'll skip between them and it seems like the US edition aims for the lowest common denominator.
Anyway, the purpose of this post, which I don't know why I'm writing on this blog as it has nothing to do with my music et al, is that when reading the Times I can't help but notice in the comments section that in general, it seems most people don't really understand how the US government functions.  It seems people don't understand separation of powers, rights of the states... That you can't blame the Federal government for everything. That some things fall under a state's responsibility. That President Obama or Bush before him or Clinton don't have total control, if they have any at all, on matters that fall under the Congress's authority.
That without the Senate and Congress it's hard to get most anything done. But that's the way it's supposed to be, within reason. No side should be able to roll over the other.

I'll find some examples that illustrate what I mean ( IMO) and post excepts here.
